I’m not sure how exactly ZeFrank would be catagorized. He’s a new type of artist who takes advantage of the internet and its capability, especially in terms to interacting and collaborating with others (for his own description, check out his TED 2004 talk. If you haven’t seen any of the TED talks online, for shame!). There’s tons of fun stuff on his website, and his “The Show” was enormously popular when it aired online (you can still watch it). Recently, he posted some questions about creating work for an audience:
Bassoon Friends
in Brazil with Rob from San Francisco Symphony.
Note: I highly recommend taking any gig that includes living in a fabulous Brazilian resort.
Here’s some Brazilian desserts. As Dave said, we were never more than 150 feet away from a flan at any time.

Johann Georg Albrechtsberger and the Jew’s Harp

Known to most of us as a theorist and Beethoven’s teacher, Albrechstberger has another claim to fame. He wrote several concerti for the mandora and Jew’s harp! I’m from the Appalachians, but I never heard Jew’s harp like this… I love the cadenza at the end of the first movement of the E Major concerto. The first movement of the F Major concerto is pretty spunky, complete with huge appogiatura in the second part of the theme.
Listen to a recording by the Munich Chamber Orchestra here on
“WFMU’s Beware of the Blog”
Also check out their link to Harvey Matusow’s Jew’s Harp Band!
